Teenager chased into Sheffield supermarket and attacked by boys with metal baton

A teenager suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked in a Sheffield supermarket after being chased by youths armed with weapons.

South Yorkshire Police said it is reported that the 16-year-old victim and a group of his friends were chased into a supermarket on Baslow Road, Totley, by three boys armed with a metal baton and wooden bat.

The injured boy was taken to hospital by ambulance after the attack, which took place at around 6.30pm on Friday, May 14.

He remains in hospital with serious injuries although they are not believed to be life threatening.

Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

They were released after police questioning, with one granted bail and the other released under investigation.

South Yorkshire Police said: “It is reported that a 16-year-old boy and his group of friends were chased into a supermarket on Baslow Road by three boys armed with a metal baton, and another with a wooden bat.

“An altercation took place inside the shop between the two groups.

“The 16-year-old boy was assaulted and suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. been released, one under investigation and one on police bail.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
