A large scale funeral procession is expected in Sheffield today as friends and relatives of murder victim Danny Irons say their final farewells.

South Yorkshire Police is warning motorists of the possibility of delays as the procession makes its way from Hackenthorpe to City Road Crematorium via Birley Spa Lane, Occupation Lane, Birley Moor Road, Ridgeway Road and City Road between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Danny, aged 32, was stabbed to death on Fretson Green, Manor, in the early hours of Saturday, April 17.

The attack occurred just yards away from a children’s playground used by local families.

Ahead of his funeral, his heartbroken mum, Christine, 51, said: “He was the kindest and most loving person you could ever meet. He would do anything for anybody.”

The funeral service is to be held at City Road Crematorium at 11.15am.

Two men have been charged with Danny’s murder – Daniel Chadwick, 29, of Melville Drive, Manor and Ross Turton, 29, of Danewood Avenue, Manor.
