'Such a quiet lovely lady': South Yorkshire Police name woman stabbed to death

A woman stabbed to death has been named by South Yorkshire Police as her alleged murderer is due in court today.

Agita Geslere, aged 61, was found with multiple stab wounds in a property on Brierfield Close, Barnsley, in the early hours of Tuesday, May 25.

Emergency services were called to the crime scene just after 12.30am following reports that a woman had been injured.

Agita was taken to hospital but could not be saved and died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination revealed that she died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Renars Geslers, 31, of Hoyle Mill Road, Barnsley, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Hakin said: “I am aware that incidents like this are a matter of great concern for local residents. I want to reassure the local community that enquiries so far indicate this to be an isolated incident.

“There will continue to be a police presence in Brierfield Close in the coming days while officers carry out their enquiries. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already had the opportunity to talk to us, to contact the police if they have any information which may be helpful.

Paying tribute to Agita in a Facebook post, neighbour Jaqueline Capper Knowles said: “She was such a quiet, lovely lady. Only been neighbours such a short time. Heartfelt condolences to her family at this sad time. RIP Agita.
