A force spokesperson said: ”Roads policing officers from SYP Operational Support used tactical contact to stop two men on a stolen motorcycle in Sheffield.

“The riders, who had removed the registration plates and were not wearing helmets, were unaware of the officers’ presence who continued to monitor their movements and assess the escalating risk.

“When the moment was right, the officer used his vehicle to stop the men in their tracks.

“The two men fled, but officers took pursuit and quickly had them under arrest.”

South Yorkshire Police say the two men alleged to have been involved in the incident have since been charged with driving offences and theft of a motor vehicle and will appear in court next month.

The SYP spokesperson added: “We know that those who use the roads in stolen vehicles are far more likely to take extreme risks and endanger the public, showing a complete disregard for innocent road users...our officers will take decisive action to detain them and protect our communities.”
