A Sheffield councillor has described a murder on a Sheffield estate as ‘horrendous’ and is planning a meeting with the police and partners.

Councillor Terry Fox, who represents the Manor estate, said he had spoken to South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Dr Alan Billings, in the wake of the murder of a 42-year-old man on Windy House Lane on the city estate on Thursday night.

A meeting with fellow councillors, police officers and partners is planned over the coming days.

Medics battled to revive the murder victim but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crime scene remains cordoned off and under police guard this afternoon.

A 49-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.

Coun Fox said: “It’s horrendous what’s happened and I know this will be a worry to our community. My thoughts are with the deceased family and friends.

“I have been speaking to the Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings and will be meeting along with my fellow councillors Sioned and Anne, with the police, and partners in the coming days.

“The police have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance and they are supporting the family of the man who sadly died. If you have any information, please do contact the police, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

“We don’t yet know all the details of what’s happened here, but I know community safety is a concern for some of our residents.

“We are working with the police every day and have committed to working with our communities in all neighbourhoods to address concerns around crime.”
