Sheffield man jailed for serious assault on his own sister

A Sheffield man has been jailed for 16 months after an assault on his own sister over a family dispute left her hospitalised with a fractured cheekbone.

Abdul Aziz, aged 44, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday after being found guilty of affray and assaulting a person, thereby causing them actual bodily harm. He was also found not guilty of two counts of threats to kill.

Aziz received a four-month sentence for the affray offence and a 12-month sentence, to be served consecutively, for the assault. He must also pay a victim surcharge of £156 within six months of his release.

The attack took place at around 9am on 21 July at West Quadrant, Firth Park following a dispute over the ownership of a family property on the same street.

Aziz’s sister, Zainab Hakim, was left hospitalised for five days with a fractured cheekbone and head injuries.
