Police in Sheffield recover gun after spate of shootings

Four men were shot, two cars were damaged and two house windows were fired at as gunmen wreaked havoc in the city on Friday, May 8.
Police have now shared this photo of a gun which was recovered that day, as they set out the action they are taking to crack down on the gangs responsible.

Hide AdDetective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson said: “It’s been a very challenging few days following a number of firearms discharges across the city. We’re working extremely hard with our communities to try and tackle these issues and particularly those individuals/groups that are intent on using guns,” he said.
“You will see an increased policing presence as we strongly focus on dismantling these gangs, reducing the supply of drugs and taking guns off our streets, like this one we recovered on Friday.”
In the first incident on Friday, three men were wounded when a gun was fired towards them as they gathered in Grimesthorpe Road, Burngreave, at around midnight.
Two hours later, a 53-year-old man was shot in Club Garden Road, Sharrow.

Hide AdJust before 7pm, two rival groups opened fire at each other in Machon Bank, Nether Edge, and at 7.30pm a house window was shot in nearby Union Road.
Speaking over the weekend, Mr Henderson urged anyone with information to come forward as he said this could save lives.
