Police receive offers to re-home dogs seized as part of puppy farm investigation in Sheffield

Animal lovers in Sheffield have offered to re-home dogs seized by the police and RSPCA as part of an investigation into a suspected puppy farm.

Seven dogs, including two pups, were seized in Sheffield on Wednesday, suspected of being neglected and part of a puppy farm operation.

Police and RSPCA officers swooped at a property in Darnall to remove the dogs as part of a major crime crackdown across the city which involved 400 officers.

Police mounted raids and carried out activity in Burngreave, Sharrow, Broomhall, Page Hall, Gleadless Valley, Walkley, Darnall, Manor and the city centre.

Neighbourhood and Partnerships Superintendent Benn Kemp said: “Operation Duxford is about shining a spotlight on the sort of activities our officers deliver day-in day-out, and showing law-abiding citizens that we take their concerns very seriously and listen to what is happening in their communities.

“We also want to share a strong message to those intent on committing crime within our communities that we will not tolerate their criminal behaviour in our city, and we will not allow them to continue to cause harm.”

A total of 21 arrests were made for for a range of offences including assault, grievous bodily harm, and drug and public order offences.

After South Yorkshire Police revealed that seven dogs had been seized, requests to re-home the dogs were made on the force’s Facebook page.

Animal lovers also expressed their thanks to the force and RSPCA for rescuing the dogs, which are currently in the care of the RSPCA.

There were also several suggestions for the pups to be trained as police dogs.

Lynn Bennett posted on Facebook: “SYP Thank you for everything and looking after all of us and our animals.”

Shaun Smith said: “Be nice if you could keep the puppies and put them into service, least then something positive will have come from negative.”

Katrina Lomas also posted: “Hope all the dogs are going to be re-homed to loving families.”
