Police find body in burning car on Sheffield street

Police found a body in the front seat of a burning car on a street in Sheffield this afternoon (September 18).

Shortly after 2.30pm officers were called to the scene of a fire in the Rivelin area of Sheffield.

The fire service had been called out to Lodge Lane to reports of a car on fire in the street. As the fire was extinguished, a body was discovered in the front of the car.

An investigation is now in its early stages and at this time, the death is being treated as unexplained.

Emergency services will remain in the area and a cordon is in place while forensic and door-to-door enquiries continue.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who was present at the scene this afternoon to contact police on 101. The incident number is 447 of 18 September.
