Police cordon off Sheffield flats after man arrested over alleged murder

A police cordon is in place outside a block of flats in Sheffield this morning after officers launched a murder investigation overnight.

Three uniformed officers guarded the scene at the Club Garden Road flats, in Highfield, following the discovery of a man laid in the street at about 2.15am this morning.

A smashed bottle of vodka and blood stains could be seen outside one door.

He was taken to hospital but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

The police presence is expected to remain in place for some time.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place later today.
