Police confirm body of a woman was found in burning car on busy Sheffield road

The body of a woman was found in a burning car in Sheffield, it has been revealed today.

Last Friday, South Yorkshire Police said a body had been found in a burning car on Lodge Lane, Rivelin, and the death was being treated as ‘unexplained’.

This morning, the force said the body was that of a 63-year-old woman and although the investigation is ongoing, officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

The force said: “The body recovered from a car fire in Rivelin, Sheffield, on Friday, September 18 has been identified as that of a 63-year-old woman.

“The woman's family have been notified and are receiving support from specially trained officers.“Her death is being treated as unexplained and at this time, police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

Officers found the body after being alerted to the car car fire shortly after 2.30pm.
