Murder probe launched after death of woman in Sheffield

A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman’s body in Sheffield.

Police officers were called to a house in Salisbury Road, Crookes, just after 7am today following the death of a 53-year-old woman.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were alerted to the death by the ambulance service.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody this afternoon.

The house where the body was found is sealed off and under police guard.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's death and a cordon remains in place at the scene while officers continue their work.

“The woman's family is being supported by specially trained officers.”Anyone with information about the death should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quotw incident number 157 of June 2.
