A man was taken to hospital after being shot in an early morning gun attack in Rotherham.

The 29-year-old was found injured in Flanderwell Lane, Sunnyside, at around 12.35am today, Tuesday, March 3.

South Yorkshire Police said he was found with a leg wound and was taken to hospital for treatment but he has since been discharged.

Flanderwell Lane was sealed off earlier today while police enquiries were carried out.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis. He remains in police custody at this time.

Acting Detective Inspector Janine Broughton said: “Our investigation is continuing, and I would like to speak to anyone who saw anything unusual around that time to contact us.

“Did you see any vehicles in the area or capture any dashcam or CCTV footage? If so, please get in touch.

“We are treating this as a targeted attack. We do not believe there is a threat to the wider public.

“I understand that people may be concerned by this incident, we have officers carrying out extra patrols in the area this evening, please do speak to them, they are there for your reassurance.”
