Man in police custody after murder outside Sheffield school

A murder suspect remains in police custody this afternoon over a fatal attack close to a Sheffield school.

Detectives launched a murder probe after a 42-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was critically injured in an attack on Windy House Lane, Manor, just before midnight on Thursday into Friday.

Paramedics battled to save him but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The murder occurred just yards away from Norfolk Park School, which caters for children with special educational needs.

A 49-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday remains in police custody while detectives piece together exactly what happened.

The crime scene remains cordoned off and under police guard.

Police patrols have been stepped up on the estate, with Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer describing the murder as a ‘shocking’ incident.
