Man arrested on suspicion of murder over death of woman in Sheffield

South Yorkshire Police said officers were deployed to an address in Southey Avenue, Southey, after the report of a woman’s death at around 6am today.

Paramedics reported the death of the 38-year-old and a police probe was launched.

The woman has not yet been formally identified but police officers are in the process of informing her family of the death.

A post mortem examination is expected to be carried out later today.

A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Emergency services are on scene at an address in Southey, Sheffield, following the unexplained death of a 38-year-old woman.

“Police were alerted to the woman’s death by a call from the ambulance service shortly before 6am this morning.

“Detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, and a 64-year-old man is currently detained on suspicion of murder.”
