Man and woman bailed by South Yorkshire Police after arrest over death of baby girl
A man and woman have been bailed by South Yorkshire Police after being questioned over the death of a baby girl.
The 31-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, both from Athersley, Barnsley, were arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a four-month-old baby girl on Monday, September 14.
Police were called to Barnsley Hospital on May 16 after reports that a baby had suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’.
The baby never recovered from those injuries and her life support was withdrawn.
A post mortem examination was carried out this week and the cause of death was ‘unascertained, pending further medical enquiries’.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Etheridge said: “We have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this investigation.”
South Yorkshire Police said: “The man and woman arrested in connection with this incident were released on police bail yesterday evening while the investigation continues.
“We continue to appeal for information which could assist our enquiries.”
