Unusual nail markings being a possible indicator of Covid infection was revealed today by Professor Tim Spector, who leads the Zoe Symptom Study app – a Covid-19 epidemiological research mobile app developed in the United Kingdom as a collaboration between King's College London, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals and ZOE Global Limited.

The purpose of the app is to track symptoms in a large number of people to enable epidemiological results to be calculated.

In a tweet today, Professor Spector said: “Do your nails look odd? Covid nails are increasingly being recognised as the nails recover after infection and the growth recovers leaving a clear line. Can occur without skin rashes and appears harmless.”

Not everyone who contracts Covid displays the recognisable symptoms including a cough.

Lockdown restrictions are due to ease further later this month with household visits and overnight stays set to be allowed from May 17.
