The Firth Park Neighborhood Network, which also covers Page Hall, made the statement following weeks of continued disorder in the area in spite of lockdown restrictions, including violent incidents.

They said that while the area has long been known for troubled community relations, the covid-19 pandemic has seen it hit ‘rock bottom’.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We have arranged to speak to representatives from the Firth Park Neighbourhood Network this week, to discuss the concerns they have outlined in this letter. Like them, we want the best for our communities and working together and listening to one another is vital.

“We have in recent weeks increased the number of resources committed to the Page Hall area, following concerns linked to social distancing and the Covid pandemic.

“Our Serious Violent Crime Taskforce remain in the area, as do our dedicated neighbourhood teams, carrying out both foot and mobile patrols.

“They are working hard to address concerns and deal with those who are persistently breaching government guidance. We continue to disperse groups gathering in public spaces and use fines to deter repeat offenders.

“We are constantly reviewing these patrols and looking at ways to maximise the resources deployed to the area to ensure a proportionate response.”
