Girl, 13 arrested as police ‘assaulted’ after pub incident on West Street, Sheffield, last night

A girl aged 13 was arrested as a police officer was reportedly assaulted after three people were asked to leave a Sheffield pub.

She was one three people arrested following the alleged incident, which happened on West Street in the city centre yesterday, with the others being women aged 18 and 19.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement today: “Police were called to reports of an altercation at a pub on West Street, Sheffield around 8.10pm last night (November 13). It was reported that two women and a girl were asked to leave the pub by staff and began threatening them. Officers attended and one of the women allegedly assaulted an officer.

“A 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault, an 18-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault on an emergency worker and a 13-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of affray. All three remain in police custody.”

It was one of two incidents involving police in and around West Street in just over an hour last night.

In a separate incident, police received a report at 9.15pm yesterday of an attempted robbery, where a woman walking along Mappin Street, was approached by a man and woman. The woman asked to use the victim’s phone, and when she had it in her hand she tried to run off with it, say police. The victim managed to get the phone back and the suspect left towards West Street.

Officers are continuing with enquiries. Anybody that may have witnessed the attempted robbery can call 101 quoting incident 946 of November 13.
