“Unfortunately the driver was determined enough to ram his way out, causing damage to our car and a member of the public, who although shook up was not injured.
“The vehicle drove the wrong way up the tram tracks until it was abandoned just in front of Police Dog Vinny and his handler, who were travelling down the road.
“The two occupants ran but one was detained by the dog. Unfortunately the driver escaped, as the dog only has the one mouth.”

Mohammed Khan, 42, of Spotswood Road, Gleadless Valley, has been charged with being carried in a motor vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.
He is due at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on June 17.
The police hunt for the driver continues.
