Dog ‘signed over’ to authorities and taken to kennels after Sheffield girl, 12, injured

A police probe is continuing today into a dog attack in Sheffield in which a young girl was injured.

Police officers were deployed to Woodhouse yesterday after a 12-year-old girl was bitten in the Mauncer Drive area.

South Yorkshire Police said the girl escaped with ‘minor injuries’ but the dog involved was signed over by its owners and taken to kennels.

Today, the force said: “The dog was immediately signed over to the relevant authorities.

“Enquiries are ongoing to ascertain if any offences were committed.”

Last year, a newborn Doncaster baby boy was killed in a dog attack.

Elon Jase Ellis-Joynes, who was 12 days old, was attacked by family pet Teddy, a Chow Chow crossbreed, at the family’s home in Welfare Road, Woodlands.

The baby’s parents, Stephen Joynes, 35 and Abigail Ellis, 27, were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and bailed while investigations continue.

The dog attacked the baby after escaping from a garden pen.
