But as they were leaving they were approached by a gang of four other girls and violence flared.

The girl gang had accused one of the others of laughing at them.

The injured girl's dad said: “My daughter stood up for her friend and told them that they had been not laughing at them.

“She was knocked unconscious and only remembers being dragged to the ground and then one of her friends saying ‘they’ve gone, they’ve gone’ as she came round.

“When I got to her she was stood with clumps of hair in her hands.

“Anything could have happened to her when they were kicking her in her head, it does not bear thinking about.”

Appeals for information about the attack and photographs of the girl gang involved have gone viral online but the victim’s dad said he has been told of just one phone call made to South Yorkshire Police.

“It is unbelievable how many times the photos have been shared online yet just one person has called the police,” he said.
