Cricket Inn Road murder investigation: Police name hit-and-run victim

​​​​​A man who died after being hit by a car in Sheffield - sparking a murder investigation - has been named.​​​​​​​

David Ford, age 62, died in the collision on Cricket Inn Road, Wybourn, at about 5.50am on Saturday morning.

His family have released a photograph of him and have called for privacy as they come to terms with this deeply tragic incident, a police spokesman said.

A second man was left seriously injured after being assaulted. The driver left the scene but was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 31-year-old man from Sheffield remains in police custody.

Police said the second man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they were not believed to be life threatening.

Cricket Inn Road was initially closed between Maltravers Road and the roundabout at the junction with Woodbourn Road and Manor Way.

It was later reduced to between Maltravers Road and Aston Street.
