Sentencing for killer driver adjourned after heated scenes in Sheffield Crown Court
The sentencing of a killer driver due this week has been adjourned but the motorist has been warned that prison is ‘inevitable’.
On June 17, 2024, St Mary’s Road, near Bramall Lane roundabout, was shut for hours following a single-car collision involving a VW Golf.
Two teenagers were injured in the collision; a 15-year-old and Mohammed Waheed, aged 18, who tragically suffered fatal injuries and passed away.
Hamza Hussain, of Harney Close, Darnall, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, as well as causing serious injury and driving while uninsured, at Sheffield Crown Court on January 20 this year.
He was set to be sentenced at the same court yesterday (February 16), however Judge Graham Reeds KC ultimately adjourned the hearing.

Both victims’ families packed out the public gallery, with many wearing matching jumpers that read ‘until we meet again in Jannah’.
The phrase is used by Muslims and references meeting a loved one in the afterlife.
The defendant’s family were told to sit downstairs, separate from the victim’s.
Heated scenes occurred outside the courtroom, as people watched the defendant being brought in.
Both police officers and security were on hand to try and calm the situation.
Judge Reeds decided to adjourn sentencing and asked for the creation of a pre-sentence report.
The judge added that this adjournment was ‘delaying the inevitable’ prison sentence the defendant would face, but wanted to make sure he had all the details possible.
“For that reason and that reason only I am going to adjourn to make sure a report can be made available,” the judge continued.
“You must be prepared when you come back for a significant prison sentence.”
Hussain has been released on bail until sentencing in May.
