A man accused of murdering innocent bystander Shanice Brookes in a West Street shooting has been remanded into custody.

The decision to remand murder suspect Jemele Rhone, aged 30, of Outram Road, Wybourn, Sheffield, into custody was made during a Sheffield Magistrates’ Court hearing held shortly before 1pm this afternoon (Friday, May 29, 2026).
Shanice was an innocent bystander to an altercation that occurred outside the One Four One bar on West Street, Sheffield city centre, following which she was shot at around 2.45am on Bank Holiday Monday (May 25, 2026).
Despite efforts to save Shanice at the scene and later on in hospital, she could not be saved and sadly died later that day.

In addition to Shanice’s murder, Mr Rhone is also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of criminal property, namely £10,000 in cash.
Mr Rhone’s co-accused Deiryen Dyce, aged 32, of Ellesmere Road North, Sheffield, appeared at the same court, in a separate hearing held at the same court earlier on the same day.
Ms Dyce has been charged with assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of the Class A drugs, heroin and cocaine, and Class B drug cannabis, with intent to supply and possession of criminal property, namely £2,000 in cash.
She appeared in the dock wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging bottoms. Ms Dyce, who was also remanded into custody, only spoke to confirm her name, address and date of birth.
Prosecutor Oliver Farrell told the court that the gun believed to have been used in the fatal shooting was a handgun.
The two defendants are both now due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday (June 1, 2026).
Following Shanice’s death, her family released a heartfelt tribute, in which they described her as a one of a kind, who will be “missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love her."
They added: “Shanice had the biggest heart and the kind of energy you could never forget.
“She was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend and godmother, as well as being an amazing mum to her son, who meant the world to her. To her cousins, she was more like a sister – someone they could always turn to for love, laughter and support.
“Shanice was also due to graduate from university, a reflection of her determination, ambition and the bright future ahead of her.
“She could light up every room she walked in to with her infectious laugh, beautiful soul and magical aura. Shanice made people feel loved, safe and valued simply by being herself.”
