“The consequences could have been fatal”

This is the thug who stabbed a man in the presence of children during a visit to a popular Sheffield attraction.

26-year-old Kia Gascoigne armed himself with a folding pocket knife, before an arranged trip to meet his child at Heeley City Farm.

Judge David Dixon told a hearing held on October 7, 2026, there was a “complicated history” between Gascoigne and the complainant, and their respective partners.

Describing the incident, Judge David Dixon said: “On this particular day, you’ve gone to have contact with your child, which makes it worrying, and even more serious than it is, is that you’ve gone there with a knife in your pocket.”

He added: “There was a confrontation. You were the aggressor. You tried to throw punches…you were restrained, you produced a knife, you stabbed the complainant. “Fortunately for him, and for the benefit of you, you’ve not caused a more serious injury…though the knife went in to a considerable degree.

“The consequences could have been fatal. That’s why this particular case is so serious.”

Gascoigne, of Gleadless Road, Gleadless, Sheffield, was arrested at the scene, following the incident on June 20, 2025.

He was charged with, and and subsequently pleaded guilty to, offences of Section 18 - wounding with intent and possession of a folding pocket knife at a public place, namely Heeley City Farm.

Defending, Francis Edusei told the court that Gascoigne suffers from a number of neurodivergent conditions, and has done since birth.

Mr Edusei continued: “He tells me his intention was to use the farm and see his child primarily that day.

“He obviously recognises he had a knife in his possession,

“He tells me this was for his own protection.”

Jailing Gascoigne for three years, Judge David Dixon told him: “The idea that you would think it right to take a knife for protective purposes - in other words to use - in front of children is simply terrifying.”

He added: “These courts see time and time again incidents involving innocents being hurt by weapons.

“Just imagine the regret you would feel if this knife had come out of someone’s pocket and ended up in a child.”

“At this particular location there were bound to be plenty of children around. That makes the possession of a knife particularly serious.”
