Mogging; adj. - 1. playfully outshining, upstaging or outperforming someone or something.
At least according to Collins Dictionary, which made this outstanding example of Gen Z and Gen A vernacular the official Word of the Year for 2026.
Maybe if you went back in time five years, getting mogged could have simply meant the Cat Distribution System bestowing you a moggy of your own out of the blue. Or the unique joy of having your kitty completely ignore you at home.
Then again, in every sense of the word, cats have been mogging the human race for millennia - outshining us, outperforming us, showing us up at every stage. At least, if you asked them.
In celebration of this one-of-a-kind addition to the English dictionary, here are 13 moggies in need of a home at South Yorkshire rehoming centre Thornberry Animal Sanctuary.
Perhaps you’ll take home Havoc, a tiny kitten who was found wandering around looking very sorry for himself in a rain storm just a few weeks ago, and is now learning scritches from humans aren’t so bad.
Or how about Ash, a handsome six-year-old white tabby with a “friendly nature” who would make a “wonderful companion” for whoever gave him a chance.
Or there is poor little Breeze, who at 13-years-old is looking for her final retirement home where she can be loved and treated like the special girl she is.
Get mogged by this pack of gorgeous cats with our gallery below, where you can find a link to each of their adoption ages to learn more.

1. Havoc the 10-year-old kitten, found wandering the streets during a storm
"Say hello to Havoc, a 10 week old kitten who is full of personality. Havoc came into our care during a storm, as a MOP found him out on the streets looking very sorry for himself. And after a warm night in a home, he was brought into our care. At first, Havoc wasn’t so sure of humans, and make sure we knew he wasn’t keen on us. However, thanks to dedicated staff & volunteers, he is now learning that we aren’t so bad – especially when we scratch the right spots! Due to how he came into our care, he will require safe outdoor access in his new home. In a home, we hope to see Havoc learn to fully trust humans, and become a much happier boy, still full of his funny personality. Could Havoc be the one for you?" - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/havoc/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

2. Breeze, a "sweet older lady" looking for a retirement home at 13 years old
"Breeze is a sweet older lady searching for her final forever home. After her original owner passed away, their son took on Breeze as his own and cared for her for a long time. However, due to moving house, Breeze has made her way into our care to find her new forever home, where she can be loved and treated like she’s the most special girl in the world. Breeze has had outdoor access with her previous owner, however didn’t seem to wander too far. Her new home needs to be happy providing her with this outdoor access for her to come & go as she pleases. Breeze is still adjusting to shelter life, but we hope to see more of her lovely personality once she settles. She has previously lived with other cats & has been around children aged 5+. Could you be the one to offer Breeze her forever home? - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/breeze/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

3. Busy single mum Scarlet, aged 5, who "runs to greet you when you enter a room"
"Scarlet is a sweet little lady who has been an absolute delight in her foster home. She’s been busy raising her babies, but while she’s been taking care of her little ones, she’s also been discovering just how lovely it is to receive a little love and attention herself! Scarlet is learning to enjoy having her ears tickled and being stroked, and she’s making such lovely progress. She’s now quite happy to sit close to her humans and will even run to greet you when you enter a room. It’s so lovely to see her growing in confidence and discovering the joys of having people around who adore her. Could you be the special person Scarlet has been waiting for?" - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/scarlet/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

4. Gloria, aged 1, ready to find a home after doing a "wonderful job raising her babies"
"Gloria came into our care as a pregnant stray and, after settling into the safety and comfort of a wonderful foster home, she welcomed her babies and has been the most devoted mum, raising them until they were ready to spread their little paws! You may notice that Gloria’s face has a little yellow staining around her eye. This simply from the dye used by the vets when checking her tear duct - she may get the occasional little eye booger! Gloria has done a wonderful job raising her babies, and now we’d love nothing more than to see her enjoy the next chapter of her life being someone’s much-loved companion. Could you be the special person she’s been waiting for?" - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/gloria/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
