Thornberry Animal Sanctuary launch Dry Donkey appeal - how you can get involved

A brand-new shelter can cost around £3,00

As the weather turns colder and wetter, a South Yorkshire animal sanctuary are thinking about how they can make life even more comfortable for their farm animals over the winter months.

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary’s donkeys, ponies and horses don't really love being cooped up all winter. They want to graze and gallop. They have field shelters when the rain is too heavy or the wind is a bit too strong, but there is just one problem. Dolly.

They currently have one field shelter, and as far as Dolly is concerned, it belongs exclusively to her. She might be small, but she certainly makes up for it in attitude. She's more than happy to charge, nip and shout to make sure the other animals know who's boss.

This means the other Shetlands and donkeys, could really benefit from having some extra shelter options of their own.

A brand-new shelter can cost around £3,000, but the Rotherham-based sanctuary need to make every penny count. They are hoping to find two good-quality, second-hand shelters for the price of one new one, so they are putting a call out for help with their fundraising efforts or if anyone has a field shelter to donate, even better.
