Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, in North Anston, is caring for dozens of animals - including many adorable dogs from haughty Shi Tzus to a characterful Saluki.
If you’re looking for to welcome a new dog into your home, there are so many dogs to choose from in South Yorkshire.
Many of these dogs, of all ages and sizes, have ended up in kennels through no fault of their own, including their beloved owner falling poorly and having to give them up for adoption.
The include beautiful boys like Baloo, a Staffy who the charity says sadly “spent more than half his life locked in a crate with no opportunity to exercise” who just needs a fresh start.
Kennels are always ready to look after a dog, but they’re no place compared to a loving home.
Below we have listed just 15 of the man dogs that come and go looking for homes at Thornberry at the moment. If any of them sound like they could fit into your life, please visit the charity’s website to find out more about the adoption process.

5. Coco - Chow Chow, 7 years, female
"Although it is hard to believe Coco is actually a chow chow. We are currently investigating her significant hair loss so a home close to Thornberry would be ideal so that we can provide treatment. Despite her health condition Coco has an absolutely lovely nature, she is very gentle and friendly. She enjoys a gentle potter around our site and then some time behind reception. She is a firm favourite with volunteers and we would love to see her in a loving kind and relaxed household. Due to her laid back nature a home with teenagers + is ideal but are open to younger with some experience." - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/coco-2/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

6. Sam - Dachshund x Jack Russell, 13 years, male
This old boy is looking for a nice retirement home as the only pet where he can still be his cheeky self and have all attention on him. Despite his age, he is still keen to go out on walks and would be the perfect companion for an adult only home. - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/sam/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

7. Tyson - English Bulldog, 5 years, Male
"Tyson the Bulldog is a very laid back, loveable dog who is the ultimate couch potato. Tyson is looking for a home that can provide him with lots of snuggles and comfy places to lounge on so he can enjoy life at a slow and steady pace. Tyson manages short 15 minute potters but does need a secure garden to explore in. He is looking for an adult only home and could potentially live with other calm mannered dogs." - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/12992/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

8. Vincenzo - Labrador x Cane Corso, 18 months, Male
"At only 18 months old this sweet young boy had ended up unclaimed in a stray kennels and desperate for a rescue space. Of course we could not deny this gorgeous happy lad and went to collect him the next day. He is high energy, really fun and very friendly. He is good with other dogs (but boisterous) and will make a fabulous pet with some continued basic training. He is recovering from his castrate and cherry eye removal but is on the mend and ready for his new home. We feel he could be introduced to children aged 12+ who are confident around a big bouncy boy." - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/vincenzo/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
