Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, in North Anston, is caring for dozens of animals - including many adorable dogs from haughty Shi Tzus to a characterful Saluki.
If you’re looking for to welcome a new dog into your home, there are so many dogs to choose from in South Yorkshire.
Many of these dogs, of all ages and sizes, have ended up in kennels through no fault of their own, including their beloved owner falling poorly and having to give them up for adoption.
The include beautiful boys like Baloo, a Staffy who the charity says sadly “spent more than half his life locked in a crate with no opportunity to exercise” who just needs a fresh start.
Kennels are always ready to look after a dog, but they’re no place compared to a loving home.
Below we have listed just 15 of the man dogs that come and go looking for homes at Thornberry at the moment. If any of them sound like they could fit into your life, please visit the charity’s website to find out more about the adoption process.

13. Blue, Great Dane, 1 year, male
Blue! Our very large, very handsome great Great Dane. Blue will thrive in a home with owners who are experienced with danes and their training / maintenance needs. Blue can be very OTT, and will need his new family to be confident to manage his exuberant behaviour. Due to his behaviour management he is unsuitable to live with children, although our big goofy boy is extremely friendly he does not know his own size or strength. Owners must be physically capable of exercising such a big lad. Blue travels well in the car (in a vehicle big enough for him) - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/blue/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

14. Bear, Poodle Crossbreed, 6 years, male - Aggressive!
*In foster* Bear arrived to Thornberry in terrible condition and we are unsure of his history prior to Thornberry. Here Bear has thrived with routine and is every volunteers favourite. He loves to sit on a bench and watch things go by and is our number one dog to make meet new dogs. Bear has been rehomed from Thornberry but was very fearful when trying to rest and easily started. He should have a safe space or area in his new home where he can slowly adjust to home life. Bear could live with other dogs and should have a home understanding of his past! Please note *Bear has bitten multiple times as is a very complicated boy. We are looking for a home with experience of aggression* - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/bear-2/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

15. Albus, Lurcher Crossbreed, 1 year 1 month, male
Albus is a boisterous young boy who would benefit from experienced owners and a home who are able to continue his training. Albus is crate trained and house trained. Albus is a very social boy and would enjoy the company of another well mannered adult dog (although this is not essential providing he has lots of friends). Albus is best suited to a home adult only and a home crazy about Lurchers and their quirks! Albus enjoys spending time outdoors so an active home would be beneficial for him. Albus does have Hypothyroidism which he will require ongoing medication for. - https://www.thornberryanimalsanctuary.org/animals/albus/ | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
