The Sheffield suburb named one of the "coolest neighbourhoods in the UK" by Time Out
“Go-to food and drink hotspot” Crookes has been named one of the “coolest neighbourhoods in the UK”.
Crookes in Sheffield has been named the 6th “coolest neighbourhood in the UK” according to the famous review magazine.
Time Out’s announcement came on Thursday, October 8, shining a light on the vibrant suburb that’s gained popularity in recent years.

This comes four years after Kelham Island was named one of the “coolest neighbourhoods in the world” and was put 35th out of 51 in 2022.
Also back in 2024, Nether Edge was listed in The Sunday Times as one of the best places to live in the UK.
Time Out Editor Ed Cunningham and contributing writer Daniel Dylan Wray, said: “Once considered purely a place for students, Crookes has undergone a shift in its development and demographic in recent years, quietly and subtly morphing into a wonderfully self-contained neighbourhood that is now a go-to food and drink hotspot.
“Much like Sheffield, this little suburb is not flashy or fussy – it’s an under-the-radar residential area – but it packs a lot of punch for its size.”
Time Out put together an itinerary to spend a perfect day in Crookes, mentioning some of its iconic spots.

‘Ta’ - a coffee shop that sells “killer brekkie and brews” - was mentioned along with Proof, Pom, Paesani and The Punch Bowl - showing the many options locals have when wanting a delicious bite to eat.
Then, once you’ve filled up on some good food, Bole Hill was chosen as the next best stop to see “gorgeous sweeping views of the city” before a relaxing stroll.

To finish off the itinerary, micropub ‘Two Sheds’ and wine bar ‘Tenaya’ were given a shout out, along with dinner at “one of Sheffield’s best restaurants” - ‘No Name’.
So whilst Crookes has been a long time favourite for students in Sheffield, it seems as though its beauty is now recognised on a much bigger scale.
The destination account for Sheffield, ‘Visit Sheffield’ posted to their Instagram page to announce the news, and everyone seemed to be in agreement.
Lauren Housley commented: “Absolutely love it!” while Tina Crofts called it a “great place”.
One person commented that they have lived their for a few years, and wrote: “I can attest to it’s beauty, charm, connection to the city and general coolness!”
There are so many beautiful spots in Sheffield, and with Kelham Island and now Crookes being named in Time Out’s “coolest neighbourhood” lists, could there be more on the rise of popularity?
