Update on future of two Sheffield Stonegate pubs that closed on same day
“These pubs remain important parts of their local communities, and we are actively progressing plans to bring them back into operation”
Two local pubs that suddenly closed down on the same day will reopen, according to national operator Stonegate.
On Wednesday, September 30, both the Earl Marshal, on East Bank Road, and the Hyde Park, on Hill Top Road, Dronfield - a village between Sheffield and Chesterfield - released statements saying they would be closed for the “foreseeable future.”
However, on Friday, October 2, Stonegate have confirmed the pubs will be reopening and that they are “are actively progressing plans to bring them back into operation.”

“The Earl Marshal and The Hyde Park have temporarily ceased trading while we work through a change of operator,” a Stonegate Pub Partners spokesperson added.
“We will be recruiting a new publican for both sites and are committed to reopening them as soon as possible.
“These pubs remain important parts of their local communities, and we are actively progressing plans to bring them back into operation.
“As part of this process, we are also exploring investment opportunities to support their future success. We look forward to welcoming guests back to both venues in due course.”
Labour councillors in Arbourthorne quickly launched a campaign to bring the Earl Marshal back after its sudden closure.
They also wrote to Stonegate’s chief executive David McDowall l, asking the company to explain its plans for the Earl Marshal, whether it is seeking a new operator and what timetable it envisages for reopening.
Councillor Ben Miskell said: “Pubs are an important part of our cultural life, and here in Arbourthorne we value them. They reflect our city’s history and character, support local jobs and give people somewhere to come together.
“Our community has already lost too many of these spaces. Once they disappear, they can be incredibly difficult to replace.
“We want Stonegate to work with us to give the Earl Marshal the chance to thrive again.”
