A couple who started a popular takeaway business during the Covid pandemic are set to realise their ‘dream’ by opening a new restaurant in Sheffield.

Delhi In Minutes is due to replace Almas Indian Brasserie on High Street, Dore, which has been running for more than 25 years, it has announced.

It’s being opened by Sweety and her husband Roop, who will be the head chef, and the couple hope to welcome diners from mid-June.

They aim to bring the authentic flavours of Delhi to Sheffield, including the classic dish of butter chicken which originated there.

“It’s always been our dream to open our very own restaurant, where we can create an authentic Indian dining experience that transports you to the vibrant streets of Delhi,” said Sweety.

“We’re so excited to be opening in Dore, and we’d like to thank people for their unwavering support during the challenging times of Covid, which touched our hearts deeply.

“Our menu at Delhi In Minutes will be a symphony of flavours, carefully crafted to celebrate India’s rich culinary heritage. From fragrant biryani to sizzling tandoori delights, every dish tells a story.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming people inside our cosy space, where we want people to feel like family as soon as they walk through our doors.

“Together, we’ll create memories over steaming bowls of curry and laughter-filled evenings.”

Roop was born in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, amid the Himalayas, where he developed his passion for cooking. He went on to study culinary arts in Delhi before working in the kitchens of five-star restaurants in India.

Sweety previously worked at the Mercure St Paul’s Hotel in Sheffield and more recently in software development, after having her two children.
