Sheffield's coronavirus infection rate falls again, according to latest figures

There were 56 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the seven days to Wednesday, July 15 – a rate of 9.6 per 100,000 population – according to data from Public Health England.

That’s down from 71 during the previous week, when the rate was 12.2 per 100,000, and much lower than the rate of 24.4 recorded in the city at the end of June.

The latest fall in the number of confirmed cases comes despite a mobile testing centre set up at in the car park of the Olympic Legacy Park between Saturday, July 11, and today, Friday, July 17, in an effort to encourage more people with symptoms to get tested.

He was speaking after it emerged the city had been selected for ‘enhanced support’ from the Government to aid the fight against Covid-19.
