A former bank in Sheffield city centre is set to become a steakhouse.

The old Halifax Bank building on Surrey Street, near the Winter Garden, has been empty for some time.

But the pub chain Mitchells & Butlers now plans to open another branch of its Miller and Carter restaurants, specialising in steaks, there.

It has applied for a licence which would allow the new restaurant to open until 12.30am throughout the week, and to serve alcohol until midnight.

There are already Miller & Carter restaurants in the city, off Ecclesall Road South and at Valley Centertainment, the latter of which opened in the summer.

Mitchells & Butlers recently re-opened popular Sheffield pub and music venue The Harley, which had closed suddenly earlier this year.
