Three soloists join Brigantes Orchestra for Sheffield Cathedral concert

Sheffield’s Brigantes Orchestra will bring together three classical soloists for a concert at Sheffield Cathedral on November 27 that links music from three centuries.

The performance is part of the orchestra’s current season, A Musical Journey Through Time, which explores how musical influences can travel across generations.

Bach, Stravinsky and Britten, who died 50 years ago this year, feature in the programme, which Musical Director Quentin Clare says is intended as a celebration of the art of conversation.

“All the music in this programme is for small forces - soloists and an intimate ensemble of only 16 or so musicians,” said Quentin.

“Imagine music as conversation with solo lines stepping forward, intertwining and passing ideas.

“Across three centuries, composers have often rediscovered the expressive power of smaller, more intimate orchestral writing.”

The concert will include violinist David Milsom and flautist Laura Jellicoe, both regular members of the orchestra, alongside guest pianist Alice Power, described as a specialist in this repertoire.
