Record-breaking turnout as over 100 young people attend mobile youth club in Wybourn

A mobile youth club initiative has made a powerful impact in Wybourn, attracting over 100 young people to a single session—an extraordinary turnout that the charity says is virtually unheard of for a youth club.

The Mobile Youth Club is a specially designed van that brings activities and support directly into communities.

It was brought to the city estate by the anti-knife crtime charity Always an Alternative, in response to a lack of local activates for young people.

Its mission is to provide a safe, welcoming space where young people can socialise, learn new skills, and access support.

The mobile youth club is uniquely equipped to meet a wide range of interests.

Inside the van, one half is dedicated to gaming, featuring a PS5 and interactive entertainment, while the other half is set up as a creative hub with DJ equipment and a microphone - giving young people the chance to explore music, performance, and self-expression.

Beyond the van itself, sessions also include an arts and crafts table and a variety of sporting equipment, encouraging creativity and physical activity in equal measure.

Importantly, every session ensures that all attendees have access to food and drink, helping to remove barriers and create an inclusive environment.

Parents of the young people say the overwhelming turnout highlights both the need for youth provision in the area and the positive impact of bringing services directly to young people.

“This level of engagement shows just how important it is to invest in opportunities for young people. To have over 100 attend a youth session is incredible- it really demonstrates that when you provide something meaningful, young people will show up," said Anthony Olaseinde, from Always an Alternative.

He said success of the scheme in Wybourn is sparking conversations about expanding into other areas in need.

This partnership is with 'Wybourn Works' a local community-based employability programme run by Great Places Housing Group, and funded by the Department of Work and Pensions.
