Adoption Matters, a voluntary adoption agency covering Sheffield, is hosting a new series of online 'Meet the Adopter' events. These sessions aim to connect individuals considering adoption with families who have already welcomed children into their homes.
Following successful initial events featuring solo adopter Michelle and the couple Jo and Damian, which drew over 30 attendees, two further opportunities have been announced. On Tuesday, September 22, at 7pm, participants can meet Qadeer, who adopted three children with his husband through the charity. A second event on Tuesday, November 3, at 7.30pm will feature Steve, who adopted his son with his wife.
These free online events offer an informal setting for attendees to hear real-life adoption stories, ask questions, and speak with both adopters and experienced members of the Adoption Matters team. They complement the charity's regular monthly information events, which provide a detailed overview of the adoption process, available support, and children awaiting adoption.
The initiative comes as the need for adoptive families remains critical. Across England, 3,010 children are currently waiting for adoption, while only 1,350 adopters have been approved, leading to extended waits for many children to find permanent, loving homes.
