There are plenty of woodland walks, scenic views and picturesque villages to enjoy this winter in and around Sheffield that lend themselves well to colder weather.
And there’s always a way to make a mission out of it - maybe you can head out to see the newly arrived cows on Rainbow Meadow, or complete a circular walk while taking in the view of the moor at Redmires Reservoirs.
They’re also free to explore if you are saving the pennies ahead of Christmas - or maybe you want to burn off some calories after Christmas is over!
Take a look at these 10 spots in and around Sheffield to enjoy during the chillier months.

5. Redmires Reservoirs
Here are the stunning, wintery views you can see from Redmires Reservoirs. They are a group of three reservoirs with free parking at Wyming Brook Car Park where you can then embark on a wide range of beautiful walks of varying distances with a view of both water and the moors, including a number of circular routes. | Kirsty Hamilton

6. Forge Dam - with or without snow
This is Forge Dam after a particular heavy snow one year, but even without it, it makes for a fine, wintery walk, with a bustling cafe, nearby parking and a family friendly play park. Make it a wider walk and get a bus to Rustlings Road to start at Bingham Park, which is connected to Endcliffe Park, then head up the side of the Porter Brook past Shepherd Wheel (a working water wheel open at weekends) and through Whiteley Woods to Forge Dam Park and the café. | National World Photo: National World

7. The Longshaw Estate
The National Trust Longshaw Estate in the Eastern Moors in Peak District near Sheffield is always a popular spot for families out for some fresh air, and you may even spot a herd of red deer. Park in the car park and stroll in the grounds past the visitor centre towards the lake or enjoy a longer walk by heading past there and out on the main path until you hit the road to get to Padley Gorge. Otherwise, park on the road at at Padley and reverse the walk. | National Trust Images Photo: ©National Trust Images/Robert Morris

8. Sheffield and Tinsley Canal
An underrated and beautiful walk starting in the city centre. Make your way to Victoria Quays before taking the towpath. You can follow the route to Tinsley Marina (approximately 2.5 miles), near IKEA, before circling back. The reflections of the sunset in the canal makes a beautiful scene well worth the walk. | Kirsty Hamilton
