Where can I meet Santa in Sheffield? Here's where you can see Father Christmas and all the other festive events still taking place this year

This year’s upheavals have had an impact on many Christmas traditions – but there are still plenty of family-friendly activities happening in Sheffield in the run-up to the big day.

From festive markets to treasure hunts and a drive-in cinema, here are 10 dates for the diary this month. Information is subject to change and organisers should be contacted directly for further details.

Sheffield Cathedral hosts its Christmas Tree Festival from December 3 to 31. Participants will receive a 5-6 ft Christmas tree with lights to decorate, with the chance to share a personal message. Admission will be free and visitors to the festival will be able to vote for their favourite tree, with local good causes to benefit from two cash prizes. 1. The Christmas Tree Festival

Sheffield Cathedral hosts its Christmas Tree Festival from December 3 to 31. Participants will receive a 5-6 ft Christmas tree with lights to decorate, with the chance to share a personal message. Santa is staying at Whirlow Hall Farm for two weeks from December 7 to 20, when children can meet him. Families will be collected 'VIP farm style' in a tractor trailer before first seeing Mother Christmas, who will serve up fresh baked treats before groups get the chance to make their own decorations with a 'cheeky elf'. Children will get a gift from Santa and a photo opportunity with him - and they'll also get to greet farm animals. The Fox Valley retail park in Stocksbridge is holding its annual festive market from December 4 to 6; organisers say there will be more than 60 local traders selling fresh produce, drinks, crafts, homewares, beauty products and more.
