From festive markets to treasure hunts and a drive-in cinema, here are 10 dates for the diary this month. Information is subject to change and organisers should be contacted directly for further details.
5. Grenoside Christmas Tree Trail
Grenoside Christmas Tree Trail will run for the whole of December, with voting for the public's favourite tree from December 5 to 13. Maps are available over the weekend of December 5 and 6 from St. Mark's Church Hall (pictured), the Reading Room, and Grenoside Scout and Guide HQ. Maps are £2, which includes four votes - one vote for the best tree in each of four categories: family, local group, business and best street. Maps can also be downloaded from www.grenosidechristmas.com online. Photo: Google
6. Heathlands Park Elf Hunt
This is happening off Oxclose Park Way, Halfway, on December 12 and 13, and is open to anyone of primary school age or younger. Participants need to find 'some of Santa's naughtier elves' playing hide and seek. Morrisons have donated a small prize to everyone who registers and there are selection boxes up for grabs for the winners. (https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/elf-hunt/t-mpqrjm) Photo: Google
7. Whirlow Hall Farm Christmas Market

The event will be run in line with anti-Covid restrictions with numbers strictly limited. Face coverings need to be worn at all times. 8. The Virtual Santa's Grotto
Families who don't fancy visiting a real Santa's grotto can go to a virtual one instead. Virgin Media is offering a free online experience open during the first three weekends of December - it will feature live reindeer, including a cameo from Rudolph. Families will be able to provide Santa with their child’s Christmas wish list in advance, along with any fun facts they want him to know. Every child who meets Santa will be sent a free reindeer soft toy of their own after the meeting, complete with a shiny red nose.
