First look photos revealed of shots from new Everybody's Talking About Jamie movie filmed in Sheffield

The team behind the movie adaptation of the hit stage musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – set and filmed in Sheffield – have released new photos giving a glimpse of scenes from the big-screen production.

The movie – which tells the story of Jamie New, a schoolboy who wants to be a drag queen and attend his prom night wearing a dress and high heels – was shot in the city last year and was originally meant to be seen in cinemas this month, but its premiere has been delayed until February 26, 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It stars Max Harwood, Richard E. Grant, Sharon Horgan, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Sarah Lancashire and Ralph Ineson.

After debuting at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in 2017, Everybody's Talking About Jamie transferred to the West End where it will return to the Apollo Theatre from November 12 – eight months after the curtain came down on all live shows when the Covid-19 outbreak worsened.

The movie has been produced by Warp Films, Film4 and New Regency, and will be distributed by 20th Century Studios. The original Crucible team – playwright Tom MacRae, songwriter Dan Gillespie Sells of The Feeling and Park Hill-born director Jonathan Butterell – are all on board.

The musical was inspired by a real-life 2011 BBC Three TV documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16.

As well as the photos below, a trailer has been revealed featuring footage of Jamie at school, as well as highlights from some of the big musical numbers. Recognisable locations in the two-and-a-half minute visual taster include The Moor and the Parson Cross estate.
