The first trailer has been released for the big-screen version of the hit stage musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – a production set and filmed in Sheffield.

Monday, 12th October 2020, 3:00 pm

The movie – which tells the story of Jamie New, a schoolboy who wants to be a drag queen and attend his prom night wearing a dress and high heels – was shot in the city last year and was originally meant to be seen in cinemas this month, but its premiere has been delayed until February 26, 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It stars Max Harwood, Richard E. Grant, Sharon Horgan, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Sarah Lancashire and Ralph Ineson, and the trailer features scenes of Jamie at school, as well as highlights from some of the big musical numbers.

Recognisable locations glimpsed in the two-and-a-half minute visual taster include The Moor, the Parson Cross estate and a panoramic view of the Sheffield skyline.

The movie has been produced by Warp Films, Film4 and New Regency, and will be distributed by 20th Century Studios. The original Crucible team – playwright Tom MacRae, songwriter Dan Gillespie Sells of The Feeling and Park Hill-born director Jonathan Butterell – are all on board.

The musical was inspired by a real-life 2011 BBC Three TV documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16.

Fans have commented about the trailer thousands of times on the film’s official Facebook page.

“Literally cannot wait for this to be released,” said Alex Abbott. “A fantastic live show, it looks like an amazing movie.”

Sarah Jayne said: “I cannot wait. Took our then six-year-old boy to the end scene filming last year and he is still talking about Jamie.”

And Leah Nicole Madsen wrote: “I cried just watching the trailer.”
