You’ll now get even better value for money in your weekend Star thanks to our brilliant new supplement on all things Sheffield city life.
From looking back on the city of years gone by to a comprehensive list of the week ahead’s events - we plan to give you enough features to read to fill your weekend and enough things to do to fill your diaries.

We know how much you love looking back on the city in times gone by both in print and online - whether that be suburbs that have changed immeasurable over the decades or at events that no longer take place. Sheffield’s history is one of the great things about our city - and one of the things that makes us proud to call it home.
That’s why we are making a dedicated section for our retro content in the Sheffield Weekender. Pictures, features and interviews will take you on a journey back to the Sheffield of yesteryear, and hopefully spark one or two fond memories along the way.

But at The Star, we don’t just look back.
🎞️ Did you enjoy this fond look back to the Sheffield in the past? Well, why don't you sign up to our free retro newsletter.
We like to celebrate and share people in the city doing good things today. These people will also have a spot in the new supplement.
And not long after we found out Sheffield has been shortlisted for the City of Culture - an even great spotlight will be placed on things to do across the region.
From local am-dram productions to spectacular shows at the Arena or City Hall, we’ll have a comprehensive list of the must-visit events to help you better plan what you can do.
For example, just next week we have top British comedian Russell Howard at the City Hall Oval Hall on Sunday evening, promising no phones, no distractions, just humans and jokes.

A few days later, we have The Psychology of Psychopaths at The Foundry, which allows you to explore the biological, cognitive and social forces that shape psychopathy and the traits that define the condition (16+).
Then, on November 12, Gorilla Riot, a four-piece dirty rock n’ roll blues machine from Manchester come to Electric Studios. Equally at home acoustically or electrically they use a dual-prong guitar attack with multi-part vocal harmonies; they play raucous blues-based rock, combining elements of grunge, stoner, and country to create a full-on high energy experience.
Just these three events highlight the sheer diversity of venue and event that we have in this city - so the City of Culture title should be in the bag, eh?!
The events, gigs and concerts above and hundreds more can be found on our new platform online HERE, but a large selection of the week ahead’s will be in the Sheffield Weekender every Saturday - so get filling your diaries with fun things to do!

We’ll also be finding out people’s favourite things about living, working and studying in the city.
The diversity I mention above means that everyone’s experience of the city, how they move around it and the circles they engage with are different.
That’s a huge strength, and means that your likely to find the people and places you enjoy while you’re in the city, whether for a night or a three year university course.
It’s also why it’s important to get those experiences out in the open, so more people know about them and can join the fun.
So finding out what people like about Sheffield, what their favourite things to do are and what their recommendations look like opens the door to a greater number of people. Community in action!

And we know that Sheffield-folk adore their food and drink - from wholesome cafe butties to three course fine dining, our city is awash with places to fill our bellies.
So reviews - of both food and drink - will be a staple of the Weekender, to give you some inspiration for the best the city has to offer for a range of budgets.
We hope the Weekender becomes a staple of your weekend, giving you useful and interesting stories to come back to.
As always, we’re keen to hear what you want too. So if you have an idea for what should be included in the Weekender going forward, feel free to email me at [email protected].
Happy weekend reading!
