Big screen down and big stage up as Sheffield city centre prepares for Tramlines fringe

Big stage can now be seen in city centre location

It’s not yet a week since the big screen was taken down - now a big stage is going up.

This is how Devonshire Green looks today, as preparations are put in place for the open area next to Devonshire Street to be used as part of Sheffield’s huge Tramlines music festival this weekend.

The main festival site may be in Hillsborough Park, with a selection of big name acts, but free to enter events are taking place all over the city, under the name of Tramlines Fringe.

The Devonshire Green main stage extends across all three days, including a Friday evening opening programme of DJs curated by Open Decks FC.

Across Saturday and Sunday, there will be a mix of live acts, DJs and community performers that reflect Sheffield’s diverse and thriving music scene.

Saturday’s headline set comes from Sheffield favourites Kiziah and the Kings, The line-up also includes Malachite, Solar Love Society, Tavira, Blue Street Brass, Disco Choir and Chekere Dance.

Sunday sees Fringe Jungle Lion close the weekend. Also on the bill is Shanghai Treason, Soul Division, Sparkle Sistaz and a Jamaican Carifolk Dance presentation from Ripton Lindsey.

Friday night features headline Dixie, alongside Kavita Varu and Jesus Hairdo.

With hundreds of performances also taking place across venues throughout the city centre, The Fringe at Tramlines remains one of the UK’s biggest free music celebrations, attracting around 40,000 visitors each year.
