World premiere of ‘The Turning at Bly Manor’ performed by The Company could be the ideal start to Halloween

The Company, among Sheffield's longest-standing community theatre troupes, makes its autumn return to the Drama Studio with the world premiere production of Sam Islam's The Turning at Bly Manor – find out more about it and how to get tickets

One of Sheffield’s longest-running community theatre troupes will be showcasing the world premiere production of Sam Islam's The Turning at Bly Manor.

Combining Henry James’ iconic supernatural thriller ‘The Turn of the Screw’ with several of his other stories and a contemporary setting, much like Mike Flanagan’s acclaimed Netflix miniseries ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’, this gripping, spine-tingling production by The Company is setting out to deliver a truly unprecedented stage experience.

The Bly Manor in question is described as the beautiful estate of a dead billionaire and the mysterious home of a timeless secret. Taking place over the course of two timelines, The Haunting of Bly Manor takes us back to 1899, where a young governess is plunged into a world where ghostly apparitions are present.

In the present day, five people accept an invitation to uncover the secrets of Bly Manor and subsequently vanish without a trace.

Bly’s newest residents are forced to face a grim reality and their mere presence serves a far darker motive. As past and present converge, secret desires ignite and perilous truths emerge.

Speaking during the final round of rehearsals ahead of opening night, co-director, Monica Gallo said:“It’s going to be the most wonderful introduction to the spooky season.

“One of the best things about this play is that Sam has created this gorgeous text for us to play with, something rich for our actors to sink their teeth into.

“We have lots of spooky thrills intermingled with it and it’s going to be a really good time.”
