Viral Sheffield singer-songwriter signs global record deal after Love Island feature
Sheffield singer-songwriter Sam Scherdel has signed a recording deal with an international music company, just four years after losing his job
Four years ago Sam Scherdel had just lost his job, an event that lead him to pursue his dream instead of look for another role.
A relentless period of writing, recording, and gigging soon paid off when his breakout single “Somewhere in the Middle, went viral online, gaining one million views on TikTok in just four days.
Following Scherdel’s viral success, the tune received a high-profile placement on ITV’s popular Love Island – broadening the Sheffielder’s audience at rapid speed.
One of the core tenets of Scherdel’s swiftly growing appeal is his songwriting style, which is rooted heavily in lived experiences, and emotionally direct, bringing comparisons to the likes of Jeff Buckley and Noah Kahan.

Scherdel has now signed a global record deal with the international music company Create Music Group (CMG), together with its UK label Ostereo and US-based Broke Records.
Speaking about the signing, Scherdel said: “Looking back and seeing how far this has come is pretty unbelievable. Losing my job was one of those moments where I had to make a decision about what I actually wanted to do with my life, and from there I went all-in on songwriting.
“My goal has always been to write honest music and make that the focus of my life. Since bringing LAMA on board earlier this year and working closely with the management team, it became clear the music needed the right people around it to help deliver that vision.
Signing the global record deal marks a significant milestone in Scherdel’s career, which has already seen a collaboration with Hull NHS Choir, a SXSW showcase in Texas and a UK tour with Live Nation.
Scherdel’s new single ‘Kyoto Snow’ is set for release on October 16, 2026
