Exciting new 'era' for Sheffield theatre group after creative hub launch

Stand & Be Counted Theatre has moved into Electric Studios

A Sheffield theatre group is entering a new era as it launches a creative hub above a music venue. Stand & Be Counted Theatre has moved into Electric Studios on Leadmill Road, giving the arts charity’s groups a permanent base for performances, workshops and collaborations. The two-floor space features offices, a studio for exhibitions and a main workshop area for up to 60 people. Rosie MacPherson, joint CEO, said: “This is such an exciting prospect because it gives us a home for our creative communities and a space to share our world of sanctuary.”

The move adds to Electric Studios’ expanding live music and club events after a £2 million refurbishment of the former Leadmill nightclub. Sheffield artist Kid Acne is also opening a studio as artist in residence, and acts including Milburn, We Are Scientists and Reef are set to perform. Stand & Be Counted Theatre works with people seeking sanctuary and will perform its acclaimed show Ripples at the venue next year.
