'Central Library plans are great - but what about Library Theatre?' - Reader's letter
Joe GT from Frecheville on the future of the Library Theatre...
I was thrilled to see the council’s ambitious plans for the Central Library.
Not only to save it from it's structural woes, but to transform it for a new generation.
However, as much as I like what is being said about the space, I continue to remain worried about what remains unsaid.
The Library Theatre is a wonderful, historic location. It was actually the site of the first ever TV broadcast out of Sheffield in 1953. It also has a deep connection to grass-root community theatre scene across the city.
However, it has it's own need for significant accessibility updating, technological improvements, and just a good lick of paint.
As a member of Tudor Players, we are maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the council about the theatre space and service, and ensuring it is not lost in the mix when the time comes to start this important work.
