Aussie Matt McLennan loved his brief time as a journalist in Sheffield with The Star.

And the highlight of his time here with us was meeting one of his musical heroes, Jarvis Cocker.

Heading back Down Under after a two year stint in the UK, he thought that chance meeting would be the only time he'd be in the same company as the Pulp front man.

But then Jarvis turned up again - a short stroll from Matt's home in Brisbane.

As part of the appropriately-named "Here Comes More Tour" Pulp had bookings in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

And Matt aged 38, made sure he was there for the Brisbane gig, camera in hand.

He explained: "I first saw Pulp about 15 years ago on what was, until last week, their previous tour of Australia. That was in Sydney and they blew me away.

"I love Jarvis' funny lyrics and his quasi-crooning voice. And just the general sound. Pulp are just so different to the other Britpop acts.

"Seeing them in my new home town of Brisbane, 15 minutes walk from my house, was an absolute pleasure.

"Watching Jarvis' gyrations up close from the photographers' pit was mesmerising - I was shooting for music publication Scenestr.

"I came away with a ton of images on a night I regarded as the best gig I have ever photographed.

"He may be in his 60s but Jarvis he still puts on a classy show" said Matt.

"Candida Doyle (keyboards), Nick Banks (drums), Mark Webber (guitar) are the core members and are all fantastic. Emma Smith on the guitar and violin is another standout, and bass player Andrew McKinney does a cracking job."

Matt recalled: "I had the pleasure of meeting Jarvis when he was DJ'ing with Richard Hawley at the Washington pub in Sheffield in February 2017.

"I met some people who said they were friends of his, so thought I would hang around them and see if he came over to chat after his show.

"That's exactly what happened - it was a fleeting moment but a highlight of my time in South Yorkshire, shaking hands with a legend of the city."

Top 5 Sheffield memories and thoughts:

1: Meeting Jarvis

2: Covering fantastic news and sport stories for Sheffield, including accompanying police on drug raids.

3: 20th anniversary of the Full Monty and meeting Paul Barber (Racehorses.)

4: The music gigs - David Gilmour at Royal Albert Hall, Ray Davis in London, Rolling Stones in London (twice), Elvis Costello at Sheffield City Hall.

5: The pubs and the people. Sheffielders are as warm as the weather is cold!

*Pulp conclude their tour on August 28 at Wythenshawe Park, Manchester.
